Santa Rosa is Spanish because "Saint Rose" is a city in and Sonoma County county seat. Its population is estimated at 177,000. Santa Rosa is the largest town in the Redwood Empire, Wine Country and the North Bay of California; the fifth most populated town in the San Francisco Bay Area after San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland and Fremont; and the 28th most populated town in California. The total area of the town is 41,50 sq miles. The city is in the Santa Rosa Creek basin, which rises up on the Hood Mountain and discharges to the Laguna de Santa Rosa.
