Chandler is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States and a part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Phoenix, Arizona. It is bordered by Tempe on the north and west, Mesa on the north, Phoenix on the west, Gila River Indian Community on the south, and Gilbert on the east. The population was estimated at over 257,000. Chandler has an area of 58.0 square miles. Chandler is well-known for their annual Ostrich Festival. Originally, the main industry in Chandler was agriculture, based on cotton, corn, and alfalfa. Ostrich farms were in the area during the 1910s, accounting for the market for plumes used in the era's women's hats. The Ostrich Festival commemorates the heritage of oystrich farms.
