Spokane is a city in Spokane County in the northwestern U.S. state of Washington. It is located along the Spokane River in eastern Washington, parallel to the Selkirk Mountains and west of the Rocky Mountain foothills. It is 92 miles south of the US border with Canada, 18 miles (3west of the Idaho border with Washington, and 279 miles east of Seattle along Interstate 90. The Spokane tribe was the first people to reside in the area. A common lilac pink, double-flower cultivar, known as 'Spokane' Syringa vulgaris, is named for the town. Spokane has a population of more than 205,000 people. Spokane's total land mass is 69 miles.
