Pembroke Pines is a town in southern Broward County, Florida, U.S. The town lies 23 miles north of Miami. The total population of Pembroke Pines is estimated at over 170,000 which makes it the 11th most populated city in Florida. In 1960 Pembroke Pines was formally incorporated. The name of the area, Pembroke Pines, is traced back to Sir Edward J. Reed, a Member of the Parliament of Britain. The total area of this town is 34.8 square miles. The city began as agricultural land occupied by dairy farms and expanded as servicemen retired after World War II, including large eastern parts that were part of the Waldrep Dairy Farm, including the present day Pembroke Lakes Mall.
