Paterson is Passaic County, New Jersey, United States' largest city and county seat. Its population is over 145,000 and makes it the 180th-populous city in the country. During the latter half of the 19th century Paterson is known as the "Silk City" for its dominant position in silk production. Since then, it has become a major destination for Hispanic immigrants as well as Bangladeshi immigrants, India, South Asia, and the Arab and Muslim world. By percentage, Paterson has the second-largest Muslim community in the US. The area is separated by major roads including portions of Interstate 80, which passes through Paterson and the parkway to the garden state. The town has a total of nearly nine miles.
