Louisville is Kentucky's largest city in the Commonwealth, and the United States' 29th most populous city. Named after King Louis XVI of France, George Rogers Clark founded Louisville in 1778 making it one of the oldest cities to the west of the Appalachians. Today, the city is known as home to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Louisville University and its Cardinals, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and three of the six Fortune 500 companies in Kentucky.
